A concrete pad is required for the SkyShed. If you want a concrete pier for your telescope mount inside, we recommend pouring that separately from the shed foundation so vibrations from foot traffic don't transfer to your mount. We can advise on site prep specifics during your consultation.
The motorized roll-off roof opens fully in about 30–45 seconds depending on the model size. It's operated by the included remote control. Most owners tell us they never think about it — you press the button and it's done before you've finished setting up your eyepiece case.
The 7-foot wall height provides clearance for virtually any amateur telescope setup — including large Dobsonians, truss-tube Newtonians, large SCTs on permanent piers, and full imaging rigs on equatorial mounts. The most common setups include 10"–16" SCTs, 8"–12" Newtonians, and apochromatic refractors on large EQ mounts. Yes. Every SkyShed includes a standard 70-amp breaker box with 2 receptacles. Most imaging setups — mount, guide camera, main camera, dew heater controller, computer — run comfortably on this. For power-heavy setups, we offer a 100-amp upgrade ($200). You'll need a standard residential electrical run to the shed from your house, which a local electrician can handle.
Build time is typically 6–10 weeks from confirmed order, depending on the season and current queue. Spring and summer tend to be busier. We'll give you an estimated delivery window when you place your order, and we'll keep you updated through the process.
We deliver and fully install. Our crew places the shed, levels it, assembles the roof system, installs the electrical panel, and walks you through operation before they leave. All you need is a prepared site (level pad) and a clear access path to your backyard. Delivery fees vary by distance — we'll include that in your quote.
When the roof is closed, the SkyShed is fully weatherproof — just like any quality shed. The 40-year Galvalume metal roof handles rain, snow, and ice without issue. The roll-off panels overlap and seal when closed. Your telescope is completely protected. Snow loads: the roof is designed to standard residential load requirements; contact us if you're in an unusually high-snowfall region.
